Tuesday started off in the school cafeteria. The headteacher opened
the European day of languages. There were a lot of presentations about
native languages spoken at the school. It was sometimes difficult to
native languages spoken at the school. It was sometimes difficult to
concentrate, since they mostly spoke German and then it was translated
into English. After the presentations we headed to the workshops. All of
us Finns chose Danish and we had to go to the German workshop as well.
The Danish workshop was fun because Danish is so similar to Swedish
but in the German one we were a little bit nervous to speak because of
the hosts as native speakers sitting there and listening. However, we
learned some basics from both languages. We ate some international
food which was good and then left the school to visit the community
college and the city museum. The museum was so much fun because
we could try on some of the old clothes. After the visits we had spare
time and went to a cafe with a smaller group. After we finished our drinks
we all went back to our host families. Later that night we met other students
at one of the host families. We had a good time although the German people
sometimes ended up just speaking German with each other which was a bit
challenging to us.
